Parks & Recreation

The City of Elk Run Heights offers 3 parks for your enjoyment.

In 2010 we purchased new park equipment for Saveraid Park. It is located on the corner of James Street and East Gilbert Drive. It was a big project for our Maintenance man, however, we did have many resident's in the area that came out to volunteer. Their help was greatly appreciated.

In 2012 we purchased new park equipment and renovated Shirley Park. It is located on the corner of Amber Lane and Shirley Avenue. The park has lots of great green space but was not being used to it's full potential. The city received a $20,000 matching grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association. We have had a very positive response from the neighbors of the park. It is great to see kids playing there. Be sure to stop by and check it out.

Mayor's Park is located on McCoy Road. We will continue to make upgrades. New playground equipment was added in 2014 and the tennis court was overlaid in 2015. Mayor's Park offers many activities. It has 2 playground areas, basketball court, tennis court, pickle ball court, 2 sand volleyball courts and a ball diamond. In 2022-2023 a beautiful trail, several creek and trail seating locations, a new shelter and restroom, and several new areas of native flowers were added with the help of grants from TAP, REAP, LWCON, and Black Hawk Gaming. The ball diamond can be rented. There are 3 shelters for use or you can now rent them for your special gathering. Mayor's Park has been a popular site for many summer functions.

Parks are vital to the community and need to be attractive and provide a safe, fun place to play for all children, young and old.
