April Newsletter from the Mayor

Hello and happy April!
Can you believe how fast this year is going? It’s already time for the April newsletter, and spring is officially here! We’ll see construction kick off on Gilbertville Road the week of April 6th. The final phase might be a little messy and inconvenient for a short time, but it will be well worth it. It will be so nice to safely walk along these 2 roadways, as well as drive on the improved roads!
This month I’d like to officially welcome Sara Pittman to the City Staff. Sara is taking over the Clerk position, and I hope we can all make her feel welcome. Sara has been an Elk Run resident since 2020. She has 2 boys, ages 28 and 20, who kept her busy throughout the years with being a sports mom. She also recently got engaged to her now fiancé, Mike. Sara enjoys exercising, reading, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and getting away to parent’s log cabin at Holiday Lake. She is excited about becoming the City Clerk and enjoys getting to meet and talk with our city’s residents, while learning all the duties of the job. Please stop in anytime and say hello.
April has some fun days to celebrate. April 1st is National Walking Day, and April 2nd is International Children’s Book Day—what a great excuse to get outside! Take a stroll over to Lola’s Free Little Library at the corner of Shirley Ave. and Mable Lane and grab a book or leave one for someone else to enjoy. If you feel like stretching your legs a bit more, try the trail and sidewalks that lead to the Evansdale Public Library.
Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd, and it’s a perfect time to show a little extra love for our community. If you’re out walking, consider picking up a bit of litter along the way. It’s a simple act that really makes a difference—and helps keep our town looking beautiful.
Spring also means it’s time to freshen up our parks! We’re looking for a few volunteers to help care for the flower beds in Mayor’s Park. If you enjoy gardening and have an hour a week to spare, we’d love to have your help—just reach out to City Hall.
With Earth Day in mind, we also encourage everyone to consider signing up for curbside recycling through Waste Management. It’s easy, affordable (under $6 a month), and picked up right from your home every two weeks. You can call 1-888-960-0008 to get started.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars! Citywide garage sales are planned for June 5th and 6th, and our citywide clean-up day will be June 13th. More details will be coming soon.
And a quick reminder for golf cart owners—don’t forget to stop by City Hall to get your 2026 permit. It only takes a few minutes, costs $20, and helps keep everyone safe on our streets.
Our next regular council meeting will be held on April 14th at 5:00 p.m.
Wishing you all a wonderful spring and a blessed Easter!
