Parks
Saveraid Park
Located at the corner of James Street and East Gilbert Drive, offers classic playground equipment and a cozy neighborhood feel. A group of passionate residents has recently begun fundraising efforts to upgrade the playground equipment and park surface. As plans move forward, the City hopes to add inclusive play features so everyone can enjoy this space.
Shirley Park
Situated at the corner of Amber Lane and Shirley Avenue is a welcoming green space designed for families and neighbors to gather. Playground equipment at this park was made possible through a grant from the Black Hawk Gaming Association, helping make Shirley Park a true neighborhood destination.
Mayor’s Park
Located on McCoy Road, Mayor's Park is the City’s largest and most active park, offering something for all ages. In spring 2026, the park will welcome two enclosed pickleball courts with seating. Current amenities include two playground areas, a basketball court, two sand volleyball courts, and a ball diamond. Recent enhancements between 2022 and 2023 added a scenic walking trail, peaceful creek-side and trail seating areas, a new shelter, and modern restrooms. In 2024, native pollinator flower areas were added, further enhancing the park’s natural beauty. Winding dirt trails through the wooded areas along Elk Run Creek make Mayor’s Park a favorite spot for walking, exploring, and hosting summer events and special gatherings.
The ball diamond and three park shelters are available for rent by completing our rental form and returning it to City Hall or by contacting City Hall.

The City of Elk Run Heights is deeply grateful for the grant funding that has made many of these park improvements possible. Support from TAP, REAP, LWCON, and the Black Hawk Gaming Association has played a vital role in enhancing park amenities, preserving natural spaces, and creating welcoming places for the entire community to enjoy.
Community involvement is at the heart of Elk Run Heights parks. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year and may include park cleanups, trail maintenance, planting and caring for native pollinator areas, or helping with special projects and events. Residents who would like to get involved are encouraged to contact City Hall or watch for upcoming opportunities shared on our News and Announcements page and the City’s social media channels.
