About
Founded by a small group of families seeking a quieter, more connected way of life away from the challenges of big city living, Elk Run Heights began on land originally owned by Everette Sutton. In 1947, he developed the first neighborhood, Sutton’s First Addition. By April 1951, residents petitioned for incorporation, and in June of that year, the city held its first mayoral and council election.
From those early days, Elk Run Heights has steadily grown and evolved. Through the 1960s and 1970s, the community expanded with paved roads, a city sewer system, park improvements, annexations, and a permanent City Hall.
The 1980s brought regional partnerships, infrastructure improvements including the I-380 Connection Link and continued modernization of city services.
Today, Elk Run Heights continues to grow while honoring the strong community spirit that shaped its beginnings.
The complete history of the city is available at City Hall.
